Malala Yousafzai

MAJOR OVERSIGHT:: In only looking over my shoulder to the past,

I’ve neglected most of the modern-day Pure Heroines,

PH Malala

The girl from Pakistan

who wrote

honest insights into life

under the Taliban

for BBC Urdu,

and who also

determinedly spoke

for the girls without education

in her world,

in the world,

was the victim

of an assassination attempt

by a Talib.

Yet she recovered,

rose above,

published a memoir,

and won the Nobel Peace Prize

alongside Kailash Satyarthi

in 2014.

Today, she is the average Pure Heroine

who’s seventeen,

almost eighteen,

living in safety in the U.K.,

and still spreading her beliefs,

our beliefs,

of education and security

Lots of love goes out to you, Malala!
